The Saint John’s Eve brandon in Anla is made out of the trunk of a beech or fir tree. Villagers of all ages help to debark, split, and drive wedges into the trunk. Once the brandon has been set up in the middle of the village, straw is crammed into the gaps and a bouquet of flowers perched on top. The brandon is lit on or around June 24, on a Friday or Saturday, when the village council lay on a community meal for villagers. The village community center, village council, and volunteers are jointly responsible for organizing the event.
